Program Overview
In 2019, the presidential task force for staff professional development proposed the UGA Staff Mentor Program to cultivate a mentoring culture and achieve its vision of becoming a thriving learning organization.
To maximize opportunities for connections to occur, the UGA Staff Mentor Program will utilize a group mentoring model. Mentor Circles will include one mentor and 5-7 mentees who meet for 12 weeks.
How It Works:
UGA Staff Mentor Program cycles will align with the fall and spring semesters.
Staff members will create an account and apply to participate as either a mentor or mentee during each program cycle.
Mentor circles are created using information from the staff member’s completed program profile. Please note, the UGA Staff Mentor Program may not be able to accommodate all applicants each program cycle.
Once Mentor Circles are established, mentors will reach out to the group to determine the Mentor Circle’s meeting dates. Groups will work together to identify meeting times and topics to explore.
There is not a specific time requirement for each group. We recommend groups meet at least four times during each mentor program cycle.
The EITS Mentorship Program is dedicated to promoting the personal and professional development of all USG employees. This is accomplished by creating effective mentor and protege pairs that transcend historic barriers of rank, division, and location and allow for the free exchange of knowledge, experience, and ideas.
Benefits to mentors, proteges and the University include:
Promoting better communication and understanding between various levels in the organization and the University community.
Building valuable technical, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Gaining valuable experience and perspective outside of regular job responsibilities.
Receiving guidance on career growth and advice on setting/achieving goals.
Cultivating long-term, professional relationships that last beyond the program. For more information contact, mentor@uga.edu
