The UGAStaff email list is a great way to solicit advice from your peers and to benefit from their experiences at UGA.
Please keep your emails on topics that are related to UGA and benefit a large number of the list members. If your question can easily be answered by using a search engine, please use that tool first!
All messages must contain a subject line that summarizes your email in a way that makes it easy for others to delete if it does not apply to them.
In order to keep the list civil and useful, please do not post any of the following:
anonymous posts
personal attacks
redundant information (repeating posts or campus-wide announcements)
extended debates without substantial new information
posts that defame individuals through libel
posts referencing or encouraging illegal activities
advertisements for businesses
requests to rent or buy items
items for rent or for sale (exception for non-profit fundraisers)

Employee Expression of Political Opinions - BOR Policy 8.2.18.3
The USG respects the free expression rights of USG employees to share their personal views on political issues. Sharing these personal political views must be done only in an employee’s personal capacity and in a manner that does not interfere with work or involve improper use of state resources. Likewise, USG employees must not hold themselves out as speaking or acting on behalf of the USG or its institutions when participating in political activities. Employees must also take reasonable measures to avoid any appearance that the individual employee’s participation is in an official capacity as an employee of the USG or its institutions.
USG employees may list their employment status, title, affiliation with USG or a USG institution, or similar information in an external biographical description so long as they make it clear when expressing personal political views—whether at an external speaking engagement, on social media, or elsewhere—that they are speaking in their own personal capacity and not in their capacity as an employee of or on behalf of USG or a USG institution. Employees also may not use state property, resources, or materials (including work email or other information technology resources) or work time to communicate these personal political views. Finally, employees are prohibited from using any USG registered trademarks when expressing personal opinions on political issues unless expressly authorized to do so.
Replies to requests for recommendations should be sent to the original poster only and then the original poster should send out a follow-up message with all the pertinent replies. Contact information of those requesting recommendations should NEVER be forwarded to a vendor or service provider and is subject to list suspension.
There are to be no for sale items or advertisements posted to the list. Users shall not accept payments, discounts, free merchandise or services, or any other remuneration in return for posting to the list. Links to commercial businesses as part of solicited recommendations are allowed.
Failure to comply with these policies and guidelines may result in a temporary or permanent suspension from the list. The moderators will not allow any messages to be posted that violate a policy and will contact the original poster with suggestions of how to bring the message into compliance.
If a pattern of non-compliance appears, there will be an initial two-month suspension. After this suspension, if the non-compliance continues, the next ban will be for 12 months. Following this, the user will be permanently removed.
The moderation team consists of the UGA Staff Council President and Vice-President, the chair of the Communications Committee, and other designated members of UGA Staff Council. Select members of the moderation team will also serve as the official listowners to handle subscription issues and any technical requests.
The UGA Staff Council Communications Committee will be responsible for reviewing and updating the UGA Staff Email list policies and guidelines as needed. A link to the policies and unsubscribe information will be attached to messages sent to the list.
UGASTAFF is limited to 50 total messages in a day with a maximum of 3 posts per person.
If you have any questions or comments, please send a message to ugastaff-request@listserv.uga.edu.
