Policies and Guidelines

Please Be Considerate

The UGAStaff email list is a great way to solicit advice from your peers and to benefit from their experiences at UGA.

Please keep your emails on topics that are related to UGA and benefit a large number of the list members. If your question can easily be answered by using a search engine, please use that tool first!

All messages must contain a subject line that summarizes your email in a way that makes it easy for others to delete if it does not apply to them.

In order to keep the list civil and useful, please do not post any of the following:

Examples of items that are OK to post may include but are not limited to:

USG Policy Guidance on Political Campaign Activity

Employee Expression of Political Opinions

The USG respects the free expression rights of USG employees to share their own views on political issues. Sharing these views should be done only in employees’ personal capacities and in a manner that does not interfere with work, does not involve improper use of state resources, and does not create the appearance that the employee is speaking on behalf of the USG or its institutions. Employees desiring to express personal political views should make it clear that their views are personal in nature and do not represent the views of the USG or its institutions.

For example, employees desiring to express personal views to elected officials or other third parties: (1) must make it clear that their views are personal in nature and do not represent the views of the USG or its institutions, and (2) may not use state resources (including work email) or work time to communicate these views.

In addition, employees are prohibited from using any USG registered trademarks when expressing personal opinions on political issues, unless they are otherwise specifically authorized to do so.

Requests for Recommendations

Replies to requests for recommendations should be sent to the original poster only and then the original poster should send out a follow-up message with all the pertinent replies. Contact information of those requesting recommendations should NEVER be forwarded to a vendor or service provider and is subject to list suspension.

No For Sale Items or Advertisements

There are to be no for sale items or advertisements posted to the list. Users shall not accept payments, discounts, free merchandise or services, or any other remuneration in return for posting to the list. Links to commercial businesses as part of solicited recommendations are allowed.

Alternate Information Sources

Although the topics of the UGAStaff email list are broad, sometimes it is better to get information from a different source.

Consequences

Failure to comply with these policies and guidelines may result in a temporary or permanent suspension from the list. The moderators will not allow any messages to be posted that violate a policy and will contact the original poster with suggestions of how to bring the message into compliance.

If a pattern of non-compliance appears, there will be an initial two-month suspension. After this suspension, if the non-compliance continues, the next ban will be for 12 months. Following this, the user will be permanently removed.

Moderation and Policy Updates

The moderation team consists of the UGA Staff Council President and Vice-President, the chair of the Communications Committee, and other designated members of UGA Staff Council. Select members of the moderation team will also serve as the official listowners to handle subscription issues and any technical requests.

The UGA Staff Council Communications Committee will be responsible for reviewing and updating the UGA Staff Email list policies and guidelines as needed. A link to the policies and unsubscribe information will be attached to messages sent to the list.

UGASTAFF is limited to 50 total messages in a day with a maximum of 3 posts per person.

If you have any questions or comments, please send a message to ugastaff-request@listserv.uga.edu.

UGA-TICKETS Email List

These guidelines are provided as a service for UGA staff. UGA Staff Council is not responsible for the UGA-TICKETS list or anything posted to the list.

Failure to comply with the guidelines for the UGA-TICKETS list will be followed by a warning from the list administrator. Subsequent violations will cause loss of subscription privileges for a minimum of six months (if during the fall, you will be banned for the remainder of the football season); repeated offenses will result in permanent loss of privileges.

Because the list is hosted using university resources, rules applying to computer usage at UGA apply to subscribers to the list whether or not they use a UGA computer to access it. UGA’s computer use  policies are available at:

UGA-TICKETS Policies

Only tickets purchased for your personal use may be posted for sale. NO BROKERS.

The list cannot be used for private money-making enterprises, such as scalping or brokering tickets. This list is provided as a free service to UGA faculty, staff, and students, and has a controlled subscription base. As such, this list should not generate spam in your mailbox like some free groups or listservs do. This is the benefit of using the University list over using Yahoo!Groups or other free services.

Please take note of the following:

For the fair enjoyment of this list by all parties, we have some ground rules. No scalpers, brokers or scammers allowed. Trading (as opposed to sale) of tickets is encouraged. This list is mainly for the purpose of exchanging UGA sporting event tickets, but sales of concert tickets, etc. are also permitted (same “face value” rules apply).

1. You MUST post the price of your ticket. DO NOT POST “best offer” or “OBO”

2. Per State, UGA and Board of Regents computer use regulations, Athletic Association policies, and general courtesy to your fellow human, you must post tickets for NO MORE than face value:

As of the 2021 football season, faculty/staff football tickets were $37.50 for each of the four SEC conference games (regular price is $75) and $27.50 each for the two non-conference games ($55 regular price). The non-conference games for the 2021 season were UGA and Charleston Southern. Club-level and suite tickets will have a higher face value.

Violations

The FIRST violation of this will get you banned from the list for the season, so be sure you’re paying attention. To avoid being removed, if you post and then realize you didn’t include the price, re-post your message IMMEDIATELY with the price listed.

If you are looking to make a profit off football tickets, please take it to eBay or Craigslist. This free service is not the appropriate forum for selling any tickets above face value.

For further information on faculty/staff tickets, visit the Athletic Association tickets website.

Tickets advertised on this list CANNOT BE ADVERTISED at above face value. Please be aware that staff and other members of the Athletic Association are subscribed to this list.
