After two years as vice chair and three years on the Executive Committee as a representative from Franklin College, Michael was elected chair of the Staff Council. He also serves as a UGA Foundation Trustee, sits on the UGA Alumni Association Board of Directors, and is a member of the University Council Executive Committee At UGA since 2005, he is the Information Technology Professional in the Department of Geology.

Michael holds a degree in Computer Information Science from the University of Kentucky.

Previously, Michael was a Staff Senator at the University of Kentucky, serving two terms on the joint faculty/staff Institutional Effectiveness and Financial Review Committee. He was a member of the President’s Round-table Advisory Group at General Electric Medical Systems, and the President’s Council at Johnson & Johnson.

Marie Mize

Marie Mize serves as the law school’s circulation manager, overseeing the function of the circulation department. Prior to assuming this role, she worked as the evening circulation assistant. Mize also serves as vice chair of the University of Georgia Staff Council. In her role as vice chair she also serves as UGA’s representative to the University System of Georgia Staff Council. Additionally, Mize is the assistant director for the Moina Michael Poppy Project, a nonprofit that works to better the lives of veterans through fundraising and education.

Before working at the university, Mize was an area manager for Remington Products and a store manager for Timex Watches, both located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Mize earned her undergraduate degree from Kennesaw State University and her MBA from Auburn University

Mary is a Research Analyst in the Office of Institutional Research (OIR), a position she had held since 2008. She served as a Staff Council representative for Academic Affairs from 2009-2011. In 2011-2012 she served as a Staff Council Executive Committee Member-at-Large. She is currently the Staff Council representative to the University Facilities Committee (2011-2014) and the University Major Repairs and Renovation (MRR) Committee. Mary holds a master’s degree in statistics from North Carolina State University.

Christine AhernChristine Jepson

Christine is a Senior Event Coordinator at the Governmental Training, Education and Development division of UGA’s Carl Vinson Institute, where she organizes management development training for county and city governments around Georgia.

Currently, Christine is a member of the UGA Campus Emergency Response Team. In addition, she has enjoyed serving as Vice-Chair of the External Affairs Staff Representative Group, working on the Employee Recognition Celebration committee, and holding the position of building Safety and Security officer.

She served as the Coordinator for Staff Council in 2012. In this position Christine was responsible for the budget and logistics that keep Staff Council running smoothly.

Kaelin Broaddus has worked for The University of Georgia Press since December 2011. Kelly ConaKelly Cona

Kelly Cona is a Human Resources Specialist at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel. She received her Bachelor of Science in Management with a minor in Accounting from Clemson University.

An HR professional for more than a decade, Kelly has experience with recruiting, interviewing and hiring; onboarding and training; benefits and employment law; organizational development; mediation and employee relations; employee engagement and recognition; payroll and HR metrics reporting.

Kelly serves UGA outside of the Georgia Center through the Public Service and Outreach Staff Representative Group, UGA Staff Council and the Human Resources committee of University Council.

She resides in Athens with her husband Tom, their dog Barley and their two sons: a 2017 graduate of UGA and a rising UGA sophomore..

Savannah Hembree joined the Office of Emergency Preparedness in December 2010. Prior to employment at the University of Georgia, she worked at the Athens-Clarke County Police Department in Human Resources. She has extensive experience in administrative duties and graphic design. Her recent activities include website and graphic layouts, budget preparation, and serving as the Vice-Chair for the Vice President of Finance and Administration’s Staff Representative Group.

In addition to Savannah’s job responsibilities at the University of Georgia, she is the President of Winterville Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization.

Brenda Keen began her career at UGA in July 1989 as a senior secretary at the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Since September 1999, she has been business manager of The Georgia Review, a literary journal. Over the years, she has held the following offices in UGA Staff Council: Secretary (1997-2000), Coordinator (2000-01, 2005-07), President (2001-02), Immediate Past President (2002-03), Executive Committee (2003-04, 2004-05, 2009-10, 2013-17), and Parliamentarian (2007-09).

Debi has worked in various administrative and accounting roles at the University since 2008, In her current position as Administrative Assistant to the Associate Director of Food Service, she helps support 3 Food Courts, 11 Campus Eateries and other Admin Staff. She is the former Recording Secretary for Staff Council and is currently the Chair of the Finance and Administration Staff Representative Group. In her spare time, Debi volunteers to teach Excel classes at Training and Development.

In 2014, I joined the CVM as the Business Manager for the Athens Diagnostic Laboratory. Recently, I have transitioned to a role with the VetView software development team. Throughout my career I have held almost every position possible in veterinary medicine, from critical care tech to regional manager. I plan to use my background in organizational development and human resources to help the Staff Council provide representation, support, and leadership for the staff at University of Georgia. On the personal side, my family is my life. I love everything crafty and the outdoors. My free time is spent either at the barn, on the golf course, in the gym or taking part in the best SEC tailgating. Go DAWGS!

Kevin M. James has been an Academic Advisor in the School of Public and International Affairs since 2002. He advises undergraduates majoring in Political Science and International Affairs, and has primary responsibility for the graduation process in SPIA. Outside of work, he is active in many church and community activities, including Athens Master Chorale, the Clarke County Mentor Program, and the Knights of Columbus.

Kevin is a graduate of the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in Merrimack, New Hampshire (B.A. Politics) and the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama (J.D.), and is a non-practicing member of the State Bar of Georgia. Maureen O’Brien can usually be found in the Founders Memorial Garden, a historic teaching garden in the northwestern corner of campus.  Proud of her UGA degrees in horticulture and landscape architecture, Maureen enjoys being the curator of this 2.5 acre formal garden that is nestled around circa 1857 buildings.
