University of Georgia Staff Council
Pay and
Classification Report
As you may know, Human
Resources is in the process of reviewing the Classification and Pay structure.
The Staff Council Pay and Classification Committee has compiled a number
of issues that they feel need to be addressed in this study.
- Grievence Policy
- more clearly
defined
- provide for
a way to go outside your department
- more confidentiality
- Evaluations
- should be
based on what you do rather than what your title is
- currently reflect
one person's opinion of your work without any meaningful recourse
if you disagree
- hard work is
not UNIFORMLY recognized
- BOTTOM UP evaluations
for supervisors
- Re/Classification
- clearly explain
to all employees how the process of reclassification works. Currently
it is mysterious to most
- titles and
responsibilities are not equal across campus and/or within a single
department
- Comp. Time/Overtime
Pay
- consistent
CT policy university wide to prevent abuse
- compensation
for employees who are on call 24/7
- Real and consistant
flex time policy
- Pay in General
- oversite of
pay distribution within a department
- midyear salary
increases
- Salary compression
- Miscellaneous
- Board of Regents
appointed for a term, rather than Life
- root out "good
old boys" that can lead to hiring and promotion of unqualified people
- mandated supervisory
training
- meaningful
rewards for seniority (as long as they continue to do their jobs)
- make it easier
to fire someone who needs to be fired
- some areas
cronically overstaffed, some cronically understaffed
- remove the
leave cut off (currently at 360 hours)
