Presidents Report (2003-2004) We have had a difficult year this year with the State budget cuts and weathering layoffs as best as possible. I wish I could say that we did not have any layoffs. We have had a good and responsive executive committee and I would like to thank all involved for a job well done. We have gained a more direct and better dialog in my opinion with the Administration (Office of the President, Dr. Adams and Dr. Mace) with more open discussion of topics related to Staff Council. President Adams and Dr. Mace have both extended there openness to have more dialog and meetings with the Staff Council and the Staff Council Executive Committee throughout the coming year and hopefully it will be for years to come. We have had a very productive year with a successful State Wide Conference in Augusta. Many thanks to those involved!. A thank you! To all the departments who supported this event through donations of door prizes and supporting their Reps to attend this event in Augusta. The Staff Council has also been involved with many other issues such as: New Pay and Classification system Employee Assistance Program Shared Leave Program (Thanks Margot!) Master Calendar change- Ni<w Y*trs eve substituted for Memorial Day (2007) ! Requested additional representation on University Council (Still in progress) State Leadership forum with State Senators "desire to return" pool for those Laid off (2004) Bookstore & Tifton Staff Council Members selected for Search Committee for Dean of Arts& Sciences Involved in employee transition of Bookstore to Foleys ! Weathered Dooley/Adams controversies The faculty conference was reformed this year and I was able to keep a Staff Representative on this important University group. It has been a joy to discuss issues with both the Faculty Conference and the University Council. I have made many friends in both of these groups. It has also been a joy meeting and working with the Graduate Student Rep and the Undergraduate Student Rep on the University Council. I would also like to mention a Thank You to those who have supported us in the media: The Columns, The Red & Black, The Athens Banner Herald and The Atlanta Journal & Constitution for there excellent reporting of our concerns and issues. !Many thanks to the State Wide committee chaired by Margot Peters for the hard and wonderful work they have all done. I understand we are in great shape to greet our few Staff members from around the state and out of state when we host the next State Wide Staff Council Conference in 2005. Thank you to all of you who have continued to come to the meetings, committees and remain part of this great group and the University of Georgia. Please continue to encourage fellow staff members to come and join us in discussion of our future here at UGA. Thank you again for your support, Pa!ul A.
